In a recent study that was conducted earlier this year, Google discovered that hacking of websites has increased by 32% since 2016.  As technology evolves and develops, it is important now, more than ever, to ensure that your website is protected.  Did you know that within the past 2 years companies such as T-Mobile, Target, Sony, Home Depot and E-Bay have been hacked?

Here are some steps that can help protect your information as well as your consumers privacy.

  1. Keep all software up to date.  Whether you are using WordPress or another platform, it is imperative that you are using the latest version.  Always install updates and make sure you are using the latest version.
  2. Logging in on a secure page.  Passwords can be easy to guess so a double security is needed when logging into your site.  What your website needs is a secure login page.  There are plugins you can use through the web that will make logging in on the backend more secure and harder for anyone to enter.
  3. Set up auto notifications.  Hacking can happen at anytime and anywhere, but you can also get notified in real time if something happens.  If a change is made on your website, you can be notified of what change occurred if someone gains access to your site.
  4. Don’t know, get locked out. You can configure the number of login attempts when signing in to your website.  If someone keeps on guessing, they can get locked out quicker.
  5. Security, security, SECURITY!  The more things you do to try and protect hackers from entering your site, the less likely it is that it will happen.  Add additional steps to make it harder for anyone to break into your files.
    1. Scan your website and server everyday
    2. Backup your files
    3. Change the default username
    4. Make sure your hosting company is secure

Nothing is 100% bulletproof, but taking additional steps and extra precautions will make it that much harder for anyone to do damage to your website.  JLK Creative protects our clients sites, so if something occurs we’re notified and can solve the problem immediately.  It is always easier to prevent the problem then to deal with it after it has occurred.
